Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday assured the public that there is no immediate concern regarding the safety of the over-125-year-old Mullaperiyar dam, located in Idukki.
Vijayan reaffirmed the state government's consistent stance on the issue while responding to reporters' inquiries about Congress MP Dean Kuriakose's safety concerns raised in the Lok Sabha.
Kuriakose had reportedly called the dam a 'water bomb' and demanded its decommissioning. Although Tamil Nadu maintains the dam is 'absolutely safe', Kerala remains adamant about the construction of a new dam near the existing structure.
