India-Timor Leste: Strengthening Democracies Through Bilateral Ties
President Droupadi Murmu's visit to Timor-Leste marks the first presidential visit from India, aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation in various fields. She held extensive discussions with President Jose Ramos-Horta and Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao, receiving the Grand Collar of the Order of Timor-Leste, the country's highest honour, as a symbol of the strong bonds between the two nations.
In a landmark visit, President Droupadi Murmu of India met with Timor-Leste's President Jose Ramos-Horta to discuss strengthening bilateral ties rooted in democratic values and pluralism. This is the first-ever official visit by an Indian president to Timor-Leste.
President Murmu was honored with the Grand Collar of the Order of Timor-Leste, the nation's highest accolade, signifying a celebration of the strong bond between India and Timor-Leste. Extensive talks covered areas like IT, digital technology, health, pharmaceuticals, and agriculture.
Murmu also met with Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao to reaffirm the commitment to warm relations between the two nations, highlighting the depth of their friendship. The visit included tributes to former Indian President V V Giri and community engagements with Indians in Timor-Leste.
