Nearly 1,000 people of Indian heritage gathered at the High Commission of India in London on Thursday to celebrate the 78th Independence Day. The event featured an array of music, dance, and patriotic chants, creating a vibrant atmosphere among the expatriate community.

Indian High Commissioner to the UK, Vikram Doraiswami, initiated the celebrations by unfurling the tricolour, accompanied by the National Anthem reverberating through India House in Aldwych. He also read excerpts from President Droupadi Murmu's address to the nation, a tradition marking this significant annual event.

Doraiswami expressed joy over the unexpectedly high turnout, highlighting that the president's message on equity and inclusion resonated well with attendees. Reflecting on the India-UK relationship, he stated that bilateral relations are in a 'very good place', underpinned by a strong consensus on both sides for robust ties. The festivities also featured performances by Bharatanatyam dancer Guru Kanaka Srinivasan's troupe and bansuri flautist Gaurav Uniyal. On Wednesday, the High Commission had also held an event to commemorate 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day', featuring reflections from community leaders and a creative presentation on the film industry's portrayal of Partition.
