West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday emphasized the state's cultural tradition of celebrating various festivities and promoting inclusivity. Her remarks came amid calls from some protestors to boycott the Durga Puja festival following an alleged rape-murder case at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital.
Addressing a gathering at the launch of the puja edition of the TMC's mouthpiece, 'Jago Bangla' (Wake up, Bengal), she stated, "It is in West Bengal's culture to celebrate throughout the year and take everyone along during these ceremonies."
In the backdrop of junior doctors resuming a 'total cease work' ahead of Durga Puja, Banerjee highlighted the public's anticipation for the festival. Meanwhile, doctors demand better safety measures, stemming from the incident where a junior doctor was found allegedly raped and murdered, sparking their ongoing agitation.
