Legendary Carnatic musician Sanjay Subrahmanyan, known as the 'rockstar of Carnatic music,' believes that transforming the traditional landscape of the genre is possible, provided it can sustain itself. He expressed these views during the launch of his memoir 'On That Note' in Bangalore, co-authored with Krupa Ge, on December 17.

Subrahmanyan highlighted that while defining music as classical imposes certain boundaries, crossing them can engage audiences if done justifiably. During a discussion with writer Anita Nair, he shared insights into his musical journey and the shift leading him to experiment beyond conventional norms.

This exploration includes collaborations, such as with Sean Roldan for 'Anbenum Peruveli,' and innovative projects post-pandemic. These steps have allowed Subrahmanyan to reach a broader audience, dissolving monotony and engaging with Tamil lyrics in deeper ways, ultimately reshaping his approach to music.
