Uniting the Ganga: Engineering Marvel for Mahakumbh 2025

The Uttar Pradesh Irrigation Department successfully merged three streams of the Ganga river at Sangam to facilitate better bathing facilities for the Mahakumbh 2025. With assistance from IIT Guwahati, they overcame challenges with powerful currents and strategically positioned dredgers to restore the river's original course.

The Irrigation Department of Uttar Pradesh has taken a significant step by merging three distinct streams of the Ganga river at the iconic Sangam area to accommodate millions of devotees set to attend Mahakumbh in 2025.

Officials revealed that approximately 22 hectares of new space have been earmarked to enable simultaneous bathing for a large congregation, simplifying arrangements at the central location.

With past complications affecting river purity and logistical challenges, strategic efforts led by the expertise of IIT Guwahati have restored the Ganga's original course, promising a grand experience for 40 crore anticipated devotees.
