The city of Ayodhya will bid farewell to Mahant Satyendra Das, the esteemed chief priest of the Ram Janmabhoomi temple. His body will be taken on a procession on Thursday, visiting significant sites before the final rites are conducted.

In keeping with the traditions of the Ramanandi sect, Das will be given a 'water burial', where heavy stones are tied to the body, and it is immersed in a river. Preparations for the procession and final journey are said to be in their final stages, according to his successor, Pradeep Das.

Mahant Satyendra Das passed away at the age of 85 in Lucknow. His tenure as a priest was marked by significant historical events, including the demolition of the Babri Masjid in 1992. Subsequently, he was appointed as the chief priest of the makeshift temple when the government assumed control of the site.
