The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) has inked an MoU with the Delhi government for developing a cruise tourism project on the Yamuna river. The initiative, targeting a four-km stretch between Sonia Vihar and Jagatpur, will introduce eco-friendly electric-solar hybrid boats to boost tourism.

Several Delhi state departments including the Delhi Irrigation and Flood Control Department, Delhi Development Authority, Delhi Jal Board, and the Delhi Transport Corporation have joined forces in this green tourism effort. The project aims to enhance the river cruise experience by deploying electric-solar hybrid boats designed to carry 20-30 passengers each.

The boats will feature bio-toilets, life jackets, and public announcement systems, providing both safety and sustainability. Additionally, IWAI plans to install high-density polyethylene (HDPE) jetties to ensure smooth ferry operations, promoting non-polluting, sustainable tourism along National Waterway 110, located north of the Wazirabad Barrage.
