Scarlett Johansson has officially announced she will not reprise her role as Natasha Romanoff, also known as Black Widow, marking her final exit from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Despite headlining the 2021 prequel 'Black Widow,' Johansson has confirmed her departure from the role, as reported by People.
Marvel fans, however, remain hopeful for her return, to which Johansson remarked that they need to accept her character's story arc conclusion. 'I think the balance of the entire universe is held in her hand. We're going to have to let it go,' she stated, emphasizing the significance of Romanoff's sacrifice. Her decision to leave was further complicated by legal issues stemming from a breach of contract with Disney over the release strategy of 'Black Widow,' which concluded with an undisclosed settlement.
Looking beyond the MCU, Johansson expressed her excitement about exploring new projects, taking inspiration from independent films popular from the mid-1980s to the mid-2000s. She will next appear in 'The Phoenician Scheme,' set for a June 6 release, and 'Jurassic World: Rebirth,' scheduled for July 2, as reported by People and ANI.
