The Muslim community in Haridwar has altered the timing of their Friday prayers by an hour, prioritizing 'social harmony and brotherhood,' a cleric announced on Wednesday.
The choice was motivated by political comments that ignited a debate over the concurrent occurrence of Holi and Jumma prayers, said Maulana Arif Qasmi, Uttarakhand president of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind.
Qasmi, also the manager of the largest madrasa in Jwalapur, stressed the significant symbolism of this time adjustment as a demonstration of unity and peace between communities amid rising tensions.
