The Urban Local Bodies Minister of Haryana, Vipul Goel, announced on Thursday that 56,615 stray animals have found refuge in 'gaushalas' since the beginning of 2024.

Minister Goel stated that the state has successfully sterilized 25,325 dogs and relocated 41,152 monkeys to forest areas as a part of their effective stray animal population control program.

Responding to the opposition's concerns on animal welfare, Goel asserted an increased commitment to cow protection, highlighting budget increments for shelters and fodder. He emphasized ongoing government efforts to build capacity and establish more shelters for strays.
