The decision comes after Republican leaders in the Legislature requested its removal. House Democrats, in a statement, expressed that the focus on the portrait and its potential replacement remains a priority for the GOP. The oil painting, commissioned during Trump's first term, was created by artist Sarah Boardman and unveiled in 2019 with funds raised through a GoFundMe account by Colorado Republicans.

In a Truth Social post, Trump voiced his preference for no portrait over the current one, complimenting a nearby Barack Obama portrait painted by Boardman. Despite repeated requests, Boardman was unavailable for comment but previously emphasized the apolitical intent behind her work.
