Actor Vijay Deverakonda faced the Enforcement Directorate's scrutiny on Wednesday morning over allegations linked to the promotion of online betting games. Emerging from the inquiry, he urged the media to clarify that his appearance was to address issues related to gaming apps, not betting ones. Deverakonda stressed, 'An investigation into betting apps is ongoing, yet the reasons for my inclusion remain uncertain.'

Deverakonda elaborated, stating that the authorities were verifying details as his name surfaced in the case. He insisted that his endorsements were strictly for legal gaming apps, not betting platforms, emphasizing the difference between the two. 'Gaming apps operate legally with government recognition, GST, TDS, and Supreme Court recognition. They sponsor major sporting events because they are legitimate,' he argued.

Deverakonda confirmed he submitted all necessary information to the authorities. 'They asked for my account details, transaction records, and company information, which we provided. It's up to the Supreme Court and state governments to judge the legality. If they find nothing wrong, there should be no further debate,' he stated.

The investigation also saw actor Prakash Raj involved, who appeared before the ED concerning past allegations of betting app promotion. Raj clarified post-investigation, aligning with civic duty by cooperating fully with the authorities. Earlier, the Telangana police filed a First Information Report against numerous celebrities, including Rana Daggubati and Manchu Lakshmi, for allegedly endorsing illegal gambling apps violating the Public Gambling Act of 1867. The complaint, lodged by businessman PM Phanindra Sarma, attributed growing youth investments in these apps to celebrity influence.
