The Maharashtra cabinet has approved a forward-looking policy, the Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics and Extended Reality (AVGC-XR) Policy 2025. This initiative aims at positioning the state as a global hub for entertainment and media technology by 2050, driving the creation of 200,000 high-tech jobs and attracting Rs 50,000 crore in investments.
The policy outlines the development of AVGC-XR parks and special hubs with cutting-edge infrastructure across cities like Mumbai, Pune, and Nagpur. The state's Economic Advisory Council has identified this sector as crucial to achieving Maharashtra's aim of becoming a USD 1 trillion economy, with educational programs supporting this growth.
According to the Chief Minister's Office, Maharashtra's AVGC-XR sector will play a pivotal role in India's rapidly expanding Media and Entertainment industry, which is forecasted to grow significantly, contributing substantially to both direct and indirect job creation nationwide.
