BJP's Silent Protest Against Bengaluru Tunnel Road: Protecting Lalbagh's Green Haven

BJP leaders in Karnataka initiated a signature campaign and a silent protest at the Lalbagh botanical garden on Sunday, opposing the state's proposed tunnel road project in Bengaluru.

Led by R Ashoka, Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, and Tejasvi Surya, MP for Bangalore South, the protest under the slogan 'Protect Bengaluru - Stop tunnel road,' saw participation from several city legislators. They engaged with the public and morning walkers to discuss the potential environmental impacts of the project.

The opposition highlighted concerns such as the acquisition of 6 acres of Lalbagh land for the tunnel, which is intended to mitigate traffic issues. However, this 16.75-km road may increase congestion, adding 22 choke points and extending travel distances. Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar proposed forming a committee, led by Ashoka, to assess the project's ramifications.
