The Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) has unveiled plans to introduce a 'Kerala sadya' as part of the traditional 'annadanam' at Sabarimala, commencing on December 2. This shift will replace the current pulao and sambar dishes traditionally served to pilgrims visiting the sacred site.

TDB president K Jayakumar expressed a desire to start this initiative from December 1, but logistical challenges, such as the acquisition of steel plates for serving, necessitated the delay. The use of banana leaves was dismissed due to disposal concerns, which could attract wildlife and damage incineration equipment.

Jayakumar assured that all necessary arrangements, including hiring a cook and servers, are underway. In addressing feedback from out-of-state pilgrims, he emphasized that complaints would be reviewed if they arise. Meanwhile, increased police inspections aim to ensure only booked pilgrims access the site during the 'mandala-makaravilakku' pilgrimage.
