In a notable development for Odisha's tourism sector, over 1.33 lakh foreign tourists have visited the state in the last five years, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida announced. The number of visitors has seen a steady rise since 2020, despite a dip during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Parida, who oversees the Tourism department, revealed that foreign tourist numbers increased from 10,206 in 2020 to 53,392 in 2024. A marked upswing was observed post-pandemic, attributed largely to the state's dedicated efforts in promoting tourism through infrastructure enhancement and cultural events.
Strategic initiatives such as organizing festivals and participating in international travel fairs were instrumental in this growth. Odisha's efforts to attract investment and develop eco-retreats at picturesque locations have further showcased its tourism potential, drawing visitors primarily from Japan, Italy, and Germany.
