Kannada activist Vatal Nagaraj took to the Bengaluru-Hyderabad highway on Sunday to stage a sit-in demonstration in response to recurring disruptions in IndiGo flight operations. The protest, situated near the Devanahalli toll gate, saw Nagaraj and his supporters vociferously opposing the Centre and the airline, leading to traffic interruptions.
The police arrived on the scene to control the situation, placing Nagaraj and his demonstrators under preventive custody. In his address to reporters, Nagaraj voiced concerns over the myriad flight cancellations and delays that have left passengers, particularly children, women, and senior citizens, in distress. He emphasized the lack of response from both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
Criticizing the Central government's negligence, Nagaraj insisted that IndiGo and the Civil Aviation Department must take responsibility and offer a permanent resolution. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has since constituted a four-member panel to examine the operational disruptions that led to thousands of flight cancellations.
