The West Bengal government has taken action against top police officials, including the Director General of Police, following allegations of mismanagement at the Lionel Messi event held at Salt Lake Stadium last week.
Bidhannagar Deputy Police Commissioner Aneesh Sarkar has been suspended, as announced in a statement from Chief Secretary Manoj Pant's office. This move comes after a probe committee's recommendation to investigate the December 13 chaos during the event.
The state's response includes launching a Special Investigation Team, led by four senior IPS officers, to examine the circumstances leading to the event's disruption, which resulted in an estimated Rs 2 crore in damages and forced the early departure of soccer superstar Lionel Messi.
