In anticipation of large gatherings at Marina Beach this evening, more than 16,000 police officers have been stationed to maintain order.
The Pongal festivities, starting with Bhogi on January 14, conclude with Kaanum Pongal—a day celebrating social bonds and traditional activities, including the famous Jallikattu bull taming sport in Madurai.
