Supreme Court Closes Case on Netflix Thriller's Title Controversy

The Supreme Court has resolved a legal challenge against the Netflix film 'Ghooskhor Pandat' after director Neeraj Pandey agreed to withdraw the contentious title and all related promotional material. Pandey assured the court that the film, a reformative fictional police drama, will be retitled to avoid offending any communities.

The Supreme Court on Thursday concluded a legal contention over Netflix's crime thriller 'Ghooskhor Pandat.' This decision follows director Neeraj Pandey's withdrawal of the film's title and its associated promotional content, citing concerns raised by the Brahman Samaj of India's Atul Mishra over potential communal offense.

Justices B V Nagarathna and Ujjal Bhuyan presided over the matter, acknowledging Pandey's affidavit which assured no intention to malign any community. Pandey stressed that the film would not cast any religious or caste group negatively, promising a new title reflecting its narrative and intent without unintended implications.

The move aims to dispel concerns regarding stereotyping and uphold public harmony. The change came after public feedback on the original title and storyline. Netflix India has confirmed the film will be renamed before its release to align with these commitments.
