The Union Territory of Puducherry is set to become home to the Prime Minister Ekta Mall, a transformative initiative aimed at empowering local artisans and craftspeople. The central government has approved Rs 128 crore for the mall's construction under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment program.
The Ekta Mall will span over 4.7 acres and serve as a key platform for artisans to gain visibility and market access beyond local weekly markets. This ambitious project is aligned with both the 'one district, one product' initiative and Geographical Indication (GI) goods.
According to the Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), the entire grant has been disbursed to make this initiative a reality in Puducherry. The mall aims to showcase cultural products that represent the unique identity of each district.
