The West Midlands has taken a significant step towards fortifying its economic and cultural relationship with India, thanks to a strategic trade mission spearheaded by Mayor Richard Parker. Between February 22nd and 27th, 2026, a delegation of business, political, and academic leaders embarked on an ambitious journey to Ahmedabad, Mumbai, and Bengaluru.
The week-long mission aimed to reinforce the longstanding partnership between the two regions, focusing on key sectors including clean energy, technology, education, and the creative industries. Numerous high-level meetings and events culminated in several strategic partnerships, such as the alliance between the University of Warwick and Tata Power, which aims to advance energy storage and industrial decarbonisation.
This mission reflects the determination of the West Midlands to capitalize on the opportunities provided by the UK-India Free Trade Agreement. By forging new partnerships and exploring potential investments, the delegation has laid the groundwork for transforming these discussions into tangible economic benefits for the West Midlands.
