A recent archaeological discovery at Raigad Fort in Maharashtra has unveiled that the Khubladha bastion, once thought to be an ordinary structure, served as a unique watchtower. The wooden pillar sockets indicate it had a roof, a distinctive feature not found in other parts of the fort, according to officials.

Sambhaji Chhatrapati, Chairman of the Raigad Development Authority, has expressed intent to restore the bastion to its original state. With evidence suggesting the existence of a roof, the RDA plans to seek approval from the Archaeological Survey of India to reconstruct this historical feature.

Famed as the capital of Shivaji Maharaj's Maratha Empire, Raigad Fort is amongst 12 structures nominated for UNESCO's World Heritage site list. The Khubladha bastion, integral to the fort's first line of defense, also exhibits gunpoints, highlighting its historical military significance.
