Billion-Dollar Boost: Kushinagar's Rise as a Global Buddhist Hub

The International Buddhist Conclave-2026 in Kushinagar attracted investment proposals worth Rs 3,000 crore, aimed at boosting Uttar Pradesh as a major Buddhist tourism hub. The event saw significant participation and interest in hospitality, real estate, and other sectors, marking a new era of growth for the region's Buddhist circuit.

Held in Kushinagar, the International Buddhist Conclave-2026 has attracted investment proposals amounting to Rs 3,000 crore, officials announced. The event focused on positioning Uttar Pradesh as a leading global Buddhist tourism destination.

The conclave, taking place at the historical Mahaparinirvana site from March 31 to April 2, drew over 2,300 attendees, including international delegates and scholars. Participants expressed interest in sectors such as hospitality and real estate. Plans for new townships were also on the agenda.

Tourism Minister Jaiveer Singh emphasized that the conclave has solidified the state's standing in Buddhist tourism, a sentiment echoed by Additional Chief Secretary Amrit Abhijat, who discussed the growing visitor influx at major Buddhist sites.
