Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has proposed naming Darbhanga airport after the esteemed 15th-century poet Vidyapati. This initiative was revealed during a ceremony held for the handover of the airport's security control to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

The CISF Director General, Praveer Ranjan, was present in Darbhanga for the occasion, receiving the symbolic key to the airport from Choudhary. The Bihar CM plans to formally request Prime Minister Narendra Modi to approve the airport's new name, honoring Vidyapati's influence on Maithili, Odia, and Bengali literature.

Choudhary also expressed his government's ambition to significantly increase air connectivity in Bihar. He outlined plans for operationalizing proposed airports in Bhagalpur and Begusarai, aiming for a ten-fold increase in air passengers within five years. His vision includes air connectivity in every district through heliports, airstrips, or full-fledged airports.
