Mahila Morcha Protests: Demand for Free Bus Travel in Kerala

Mahila Morcha, the BJP's women's wing, organized protests across Kerala demanding the UDF fulfill its election promise of free travel for women in KSRTC buses. Activists refused to pay fares and highlighted delays in government formation as the reason for unmet promises.

In a widespread protest across Kerala on Friday, Mahila Morcha, the women's wing of the BJP, demanded that the United Democratic Front (UDF) fulfill its election promise of free travel for women in Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses.

Demonstrators, including Mahila Morcha leaders and activists, boarded KSRTC buses in cities like Kozhikode without purchasing tickets, citing assurances made by the UDF during the Assembly election campaign. They asserted, "We will not allow people to be cheated with false promises." Yet, when Kerala State Road Transport Corporation workers informed them that the new government had not assumed office, the protesters disembarked.

Despite not clarifying the rising fuel and cooking gas issues, the protestors reiterated their stance that the UDF's promise of free bus travel should be honored. The incoming Chief Minister, V D Satheesan, and other ministers are anticipated to be sworn in by May 18.
