INS Sunayna: Strengthening Maritime Ties in Colombo

The Indian Naval Ship Sunayna docked at Colombo's port on Friday for a three-day visit, underscoring India's ongoing operational presence in the Indian Ocean Region. This initiative, under the Indian Ocean Ship - Security and Growth for All in the Region (IOS SAGAR), aims to strengthen cooperation among Indian Ocean nations.

INS Sunayna's deployment, which includes a crew from India and sixteen other friendly countries, marks its seventh port call during the second edition of the maritime mission that began in Mumbai in April 2026. The vessel's visit highlights professional and cultural engagements, allowing for media interactions discussing the objectives of the 2026 deployment.

During its visit, the ship will engage in a joint passage exercise with the Sri Lanka Navy upon departure. Open to visitors, including Sri Lanka Navy personnel and local children, the initiative represents a concrete manifestation of India's Neighbourhood First policy, fostering peace and stability in the region, according to a statement by the Indian Ministry of Defence.
