Amruta Fadnavis, the wife of Maharashtra's Chief Minister, has decided to forgo her planned attendance at the Cannes Film Festival. The decision comes as a response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal for austerity measures.
Fadnavis was invited to represent Maharashtra's rich culture and the state's handloom heritage at the prestigious event in France. A handloom Paithani saree, intricately designed with 'Muniya Shela' by artisans from Yeola, was handcrafted over several months specifically for this occasion.
Fadnavis expressed her reluctance over missing the event but reaffirmed her commitment to national interests. She stated her continued support for promoting Indian handloom and artistry, even when stepping back from international platforms this time.
