Delhi is set to transform its Bed and Breakfast scheme with a proposed policy that categorizes properties into Silver and Gold classes. This initiative aims to enhance safety, hygiene, and service standards, according to an official statement.
By 2023, 432 homes across the city participated in the existing scheme, offering over 2,200 rooms to tourists. The revamp will simplify registration and enforce stricter safety and infrastructure guidelines. Key measures include installing CCTV cameras at entry points, maintaining guest records, and daily cleaning procedures.
The proposal also addresses operational standards and guest safety, mandating fire extinguishers, first-aid kits, and emergency contacts among other requirements. Registration processes will shift online with applications processed within seven days under the deemed approval system, ensuring quicker implementation.
Residences intending to operate as B&Bs would need to meet room size and facility specifications tailored to each category. The new framework, responding to travelers' desire for culturally immersive, affordable stays, excludes hotels and commercial hospitality businesses. The scheme has opened for public commentary, welcoming input to refine and finalize the policy.
