C Joseph Vijay, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, held discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi about pressing matters related to his state, such as the Mekedatu dam project, issues concerning fishermen, and the controversy surrounding the Tamil invocation song. These discussions marked Vijay's first official visit to the national capital since taking office.
During his visit, Vijay also met with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, presenting a memorandum seeking financial support for several critical infrastructure projects crucial for Tamil Nadu's development, including ports, railways, and highway projects. The Chief Minister called for the immediate resolution on the arrests of Indian fishermen by Sri Lanka and argued for the traditional placement of the Tamil Thai Vazhthu song in state ceremonies.
Vijay expressed serious concerns over Karnataka's announcement of a new water project at Mekedatu, which he argued was against legal rulings governing the allocation of Cauvery river water. He requested central intervention to halt any unauthorized projects.
Further, the Chief Minister advocated for the establishment of key defense and technology research centers in Tamil Nadu and sought central financial backing for metro rail projects in burgeoning urban areas, highlighting their economic necessity.
