Song Joong-Ki and Song Hye-Kyo are legally divorced. The case was finalized at a Seoul court on Monday. They had a closed-door hearing around 10 am at Seoul Family Court, which lasted for 20 minutes. According to a court official, the reason for their legal split is “irreconcilable differences between the two” without revealing much of it.

Previously it was said that Song Joong-Ki filed for divorce without discussing the matter with Song Hye-Kyo and she came to know his initiation at the Court after returning from a photoshoot in Thailand. But that cannot be true. They were already living separately since May. The Court granted their divorce 26 days after the petition was filed on June 26.

A marriage can be dissolved without a trial on the condition of mutual consent, according to the laws in South Korea. According to Song Hye-Kyo’s agency, the divorce settlement did not include the division of assets. Song Joong-Ki and Song Hye-Kyo are said to own combined assets worth USD 130 million. They are also holding title deeds to several high-end properties in Seoul.

Descendants of the Sun’s co-stars Song Joong-Ki and Song Hye-Kyo announced through their respective agencies on July 5, 2017 that they were engaged. They had a private marriage ceremony on October 31, 2017 at Hotel Shilla. Unfortunately, their fairytale romance came to an end after just two years of marriage.

The 37-year-old Song Hye-Kyo was recently in Monaco for jewellery brand Chaumet’s new exhibition, Chaumet in Majesty, Jewels of Sovereigns Since 1780. She was present with other renowned personalities like Prince Albert II of Monaco, Gala Gonzalez, Natalia Vodianova, Natalie Portman and Tsubasa Honda. “With any project that comes my way, or does not come my way for that matter, it's because it simply was meant to be, or not meant to be. And I find this is true with any project in my life,” she said in an interview with Hong Kong Tatler.

"This year, I will take some personal time off. I need to have some time for myself. Apart from events like these, I will take it easy. And next year, I will start a new project—maybe—but nothing has been fully decided yet. Let's see if the stars align," Song Hye-Kyo told the magazine.
