National Sports Day 2018: Remembering 'The Wizard of Hockey' Major Dhyan Chand

National Sports Day is celebrated in India every year on August 29 to mark the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, the Indian Hockey player, who is considered as The Wizard or The Magician of hockey.
He won three Olympic gold medals in 1928, 1932, and 1936. He scored over 400 goals in his career, from 1926 to 1948. .The Government of India awarded him the third highest civilian honor of Padma Bhushan in 1956. He is a legendary figure in the Indian and world hockey.

The Dhyan Chand Award, officially known as Dhyan Chand Award for Lifetime Achievement in Sports and Games is the lifetime achievement sporting honor of the Republic of India named after him.
This National Sports Day is special for India as India has won a total of 50 medals in the 2018 Asian Games being held in the Indonesian cities of Jakarta and Palembang. As of 28 August 2018, India has clinched 9 golds, 9 silvers, and 22 bronze medals at the 18th edition of the Asian Games.
