A team of the Uttar Pradesh Women Commission on Wednesday launched a probe after it inspected a girls' shelter home in the city over alleged irregularities at the NGO-run facility.

A team of the Uttar Pradesh Women Commission on Wednesday launched a probe after it inspected a girls' shelter home in the city over alleged irregularities at the NGO-run facility.

According to officials, liquor bottles and some other incriminating and "unusually expensive" items were found from the shelter home in Sector 12 here by police officials and the Commission's team led by its Vice Chairman Sushma Singh.

"Several irregularities were found during an inspection of the shelter home. Even the records and documents of the girls staying there were incomplete," an official with the team said.

"Liquor bottles, costly watches, perfumes, and other costly products were found there, which are generally not found at such places. This also hints towards severe irregularities," the official said.

The shelter home could also not provide details about the procurement of the food items which were kept in some of the rooms.

"Some of the food items were also found to have exceeded their expiry date," the official said.

Taking note of the findings during the inspection, Singh has initiated an inquiry into the workings of the NGO, he said.

"An inquiry has been ordered to ascertain if illegal activities have taken place at the shelter home and details about how such items came there. The district administration will also be asked to keep a watch on its working," the official said.

The shelter home was formed 30 years ago and houses around 30 girls up to the age of 13 years.
