Assam CM stresses on importance of 'Act East Policy'

Assam Chief Minister stressed on the importance of the Centre's 'Act East Policy' Sunday, saying communication in the northeastern region has received a boost that would transform the area in the days to come.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has accorded top priority to improve road, rail, air and internet connectivity of the region, the chief minister said at a programme at Jorhat.
As a result of his visionary leadership, new flight service between Jorhat-Kolkata by Indigo Airways, Jorhat-Delhi as well as Jorhat-Kolkata-Guwahati flight service by Jet Airways has been launched, which would address a long-felt need of the region.
The chief minister was speaking after laying the foundation of a flyover to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 112 crore, under the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NEIDS) at Jorhat.
Sonowal also laid the foundation for setting up a Trade Centre for women at Jorhat, during which he highlighted the rich heritage of the city and its contribution in enriching the social, intellectual and cultural fields of the state, an official release said here.
Making a reference to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, he highlighted the departed leader's contributions towards giving development a new dimension in the north-east.
