Northern Ireland's Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) has requested the regional assembly's speaker to recall the assembly, the party said on Thursday after striking a deal with the British government on the operation of post-Brexit trade rules.

"I would ask you to make the necessary arrangements for a sitting of the Northern Ireland Assembly on Saturday 3rd February 2024," DUP leader Jeffrey Donaldson said in a letter to the speaker, published on X.
