Rajiv Ranjan Singh launches mobile application developed for 21st Livestock Data collection

During the workshop, a mobile application specifically developed for the 21st Livestock Data Collection was launched by the Union Minister.

On June 25, 2024, Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh, also known as Lalan Singh, inaugurated a strategic workshop aimed at empowering States and Union Territories (UTs) for the preparation of the 21st Livestock Census. The event took place at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, with the attendance of Ministers of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, Prof. S. P. Singh Baghel and Shri George Kurian.

Launch of Mobile Application for Data Collection

During the workshop, a mobile application specifically developed for the 21st Livestock Data Collection was launched by the Union Minister. This app is expected to facilitate accurate and efficient data collection across the country, ensuring the success of the census.

Importance of Livestock Sector

Union Minister Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh highlighted the critical role of the livestock sector in India's economy and food security. Ms. Alka Upadhyaya, Secretary of the Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying, underscored the department's commitment to leveraging technology for accurate and efficient data collection. She highlighted the collective responsibility of all stakeholders to ensure the success of the 21st Livestock Census, which will play a critical role in shaping future policies and programs in the Animal Husbandry sector.

Detailed Sessions and Open Discussions

The workshop featured detailed sessions on the methodologies and guidelines for the 21st Livestock Census, including training on the mobile application and dashboard software. An open house discussion was held to address queries and concerns. The Animal Husbandry Statistics Division provided a brief description of the census, followed by a presentation from ICAR-National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources (NBAGR) on breed details of species to be covered. Accurate breed identification was emphasized as crucial for producing precise statistics used in various livestock sector programs and for the National Indicator Framework (NIF) of SDGs.
