Today, the Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying (DAHD), Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Government of India, in collaboration with the host state Assam, conducted a comprehensive "Regional Training of 21st Livestock Census on Software (Mobile & Web Application/ Dashboard) and Breeds" for State and District Nodal Officers (SNO/DNO) from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, and Meghalaya. The workshop, crucial for preparing officials for the upcoming census scheduled between September and December 2024, took place in Guwahati.

The workshop commenced with an introduction to the 21st Livestock Census by the Animal Husbandry Statistics Division, highlighting its significance in generating accurate statistics essential for various livestock sector programs and aligning with the National Indicator Framework (NIF) of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Subsequently, ICAR-National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources (NBAGR) delivered a detailed presentation on breed details, stressing the importance of precise breed identification.

Key sessions included in-depth training on methodologies and live applications of the census software by the Software team of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India. SNOs/DNOs were equipped with training on mobile applications and dashboard software, enabling them to conduct further training for enumerators at their respective district headquarters.

The inauguration of the workshop was graced by Shri Atul Bora, Cabinet Minister of Agriculture, Horticulture, and Food Processing, Government of Assam, alongside dignitaries such as Shri Manish Thakur IAS, Principal Secretary to the Government of Assam; Shri Jagat Hazarika ISS, Adviser (Statistics), Government of India; Shri Anil Ch. Deori ACS, Director Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department, Government of Assam; Shri V.P. Singh ISS, Director (Statistics), Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India; and Shri B.P. Mishra, Director, ICAR-NBAGR, Karnal. Their addresses underscored the collaborative efforts required for the successful implementation of the census training at district and state levels.

The initiative aims to enhance the capabilities of officials in conducting the 21st Livestock Census effectively, leveraging advanced technologies and ensuring accurate data collection essential for informed policy-making and sustainable development in the livestock sector.
