Kharchi Fair Kicks Off with Heightened Security and Green Future Theme

The Kharchi Fair will begin on July 14 after the bathing ceremony of fourteen deities at Howrah Ghat. Extensive preparations and security measures have been put in place. The theme for this year is 'Green Future', emphasizing distribution of saplings and environmental consciousness.

The highly anticipated Kharchi Fair is set to kick off on July 14, following the traditional bathing ceremony of fourteen deities at Howrah Ghat on July 13. The fair, which attracts thousands of visitors each year, promises a captivating blend of cultural festivities, community activities, and enhanced security measures. In anticipation of the event, the organizing committee has undertaken extensive preparations. Multiple meetings with the District Magistrate were crucial in coordinating the fair's logistics. Sub-committees were formed and meetings with all stakeholders ensured every detail was meticulously planned.

Government and commercial stalls are fully set up, with final touches being added to the fair premises and surrounding areas, which have been thoroughly cleaned and illuminated. Khayerpur Block Chairman Biswajit Shil said, 'Our Kharchi fair is going to start on July 14. The fourteen deities will be bathed at Howrah Ghat at 6:05 am on the previous day, July 13. Towards the end of our preparations, we had two meetings with the DM in the conference hall. We have formed various sub-committees, and our government and commercial stalls are fully set up. The fair premises and surrounding areas are lit up and cleaned.',

Shil further emphasized the importance of security, revealing that around 700 TSR police officers, scout guards, and local volunteers have been deployed. 'Special attention has been paid to security, especially at night when more people attend, to prevent any untoward incidents. Special arrangements for parking have been made to ensure vehicles do not park on roads and no excess money is collected for parking. The number of auto vehicles at night will be increased, and TRTC has been informed to run extra buses,' he added.

This year's fair theme is 'Green Future.' Shil mentioned, 'We will distribute around 15,000 saplings. Since 2018, we have been making accommodation and food arrangements for the saints who come from far away. All preparations for the fair are going very well.'

Kharchi Puja is a Hindu festival celebrated with great fervor in Tripura, involving the worship of fourteen gods forming the dynasty deity of the Tripuri people. This week-long royal Puja takes place in July at Agartala and attracts thousands of attendees each year.
