The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested two more individuals in connection with the NEET-UG paper leak case on Tuesday. The suspects, identified as Pankaj Kumar Singh and Raju Singh, were apprehended in Patna and Hazaribagh, respectively.
A senior CBI official reported that Pankaj stole the question paper during its transfer from Hazaribagh in a sealed iron trunk. Pankaj is a civil engineer with a degree from NIT Jamshedpur.
Earlier on July 12, the Patna High Court granted CBI custody to 13 people previously arrested by Patna Police in the case. The CBI plans to confront these individuals with the alleged mastermind, Rocky, who is also in custody.
Rakesh Ranjan, also known as Rocky, was arrested in Nalanda, Bihar. He is believed to be a key player in the NEET paper leak network. His capture followed a series of coordinated raids across Patna and Kolkata aimed at dismantling the operation.
So far, over a dozen suspects have been arrested in the investigation, each allegedly playing a part in leaking and distributing the NEET exam papers. The NEET-UG exam held on May 5, 2024, faced allegations of cheating and impersonation.
The National Testing Agency (NTA), responsible for conducting the exam, has faced severe criticism, leading to protests and legal actions. The Union Health Ministry postponed the NEET-PG 2024 examination, with new dates to be announced soon. The government replaced the NTA chief and formed a committee to improve its functioning.
The NEET-UG exam, conducted by NTA, is crucial for admissions into MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other related courses in both government and private institutions across India. Held on May 5, 2024, the exam saw participation from around 24 lakh candidates across 4,750 centers. (ANI)
