Dibrugarh-Chandigarh Express Derailment in UP: 3 Dead, Multiple Injuries Reported

The Dibrugarh-Chandigarh Express derailed near Gonda station in Uttar Pradesh, resulting in three fatalities and 30 injuries. The derailment disrupted several coaches and prompted immediate rescue operations by local authorities. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma have expressed their concerns and announced support measures.

The Dibrugarh-Chandigarh Express derailed near Gonda station in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday evening, resulting in the deaths of three people and injuries to 30 others, according to officials. A sudden noise preceded the train overturning, as per passenger Manoj Pandit, who was traveling with his family.

The accident occurred around 2:37 pm between Motiganj and Jhilahi railway stations. Several coaches at the front of the train were derailed. Pandit described the chaos, highlighting the injuries sustained by himself, his wife, and child.

Healthcare teams and senior officials from the Lucknow division of North Eastern Railway rushed to the scene immediately after the incident to begin rescue and medical operations. Restoration work is currently underway.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced that the injured were transported to hospitals and are receiving medical treatment. He emphasized that rescue operations are a priority, directing officials to hasten relief efforts.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his shock and concern, stating he is closely monitoring the situation and ensuring support. The Ministry of Railways has declared financial compensation for victims' families and the injured.

A high-level inquiry, supplementing the Commissioner of Railway Safety's investigation, has been ordered to determine the cause of the derailment.
