Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered condolences on the demise of renowned cardiologist MS Valiathan on Friday. In a post on X, PM Modi mentioned his deep sorrow over Valiathan's passing, acknowledging the pioneer's lasting impact on healthcare and medical research.

"His contributions have left an indelible mark and benefited countless people. He will be particularly remembered for cost-effective and top-quality innovations," stated the Prime Minister. PM Modi also highlighted Valiathan's role in advancing medical education in India, extending his sympathies to Valiathan's family and admirers.

Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya shared his grief, stating, "Deeply anguished by the passing of Dr. MS Valiathan. He will be forever remembered for his outstanding contributions to healthcare and medical research."

Valiathan, who passed away at 90 in Manipal, Karnataka, on Wednesday night, was a pioneer in biomedical research. He is credited with developing artificial heart valves, blood bags, oxygenerators, and vascular grafts. During his 20-year tenure at the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute of Medical Sciences and Technology, he led the development of a commercially produced tilting disc heart valve and other cardiovascular devices.

Throughout his illustrious career, Valiathan received numerous national and international honors, including the prestigious Padma Bhushan. (ANI)
