India's Remittances Set to Soar: Projections and Impacts
The Economic Survey predicts a 3.7% growth in remittances to India, reaching USD 124 billion in 2024. India's main remittance sources are oil-exporting countries. Remittances are expected to stabilize due to diversification of India's migrant pool. Efforts like linking UPI with source countries aim to reduce costs and speed up transfers.

India's remittances, the nation's second-largest source of external financing after service exports, are projected to grow by 3.7% to USD 124 billion in 2024, according to the Economic Survey released on Monday.
With oil-exporting countries as India's primary remittance sources, the growth signals robust financial inflow. The World Bank ranks India as both the largest emigrant-origin country and the top remittance recipient globally.
For 2023, remittances stood at USD 120 billion. Further, the survey tabled by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman suggests that India's diverse migrant pool—encompassing highly skilled workers in high-income OECD markets and less-skilled labor in GCC countries—will provide stability against external economic shocks.
