Health and Wellness Centres, known as Ayushman Aarogya Mandirs, are reshaping rural healthcare in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir. For the last year and a half, approximately 146 centers have provided significantly improved access to healthcare, particularly for pregnant women in the district's rural areas.

Chief Medical Officer, Anil Manhas, confirmed that the last 18 months have seen substantial enhancements in local healthcare services, including the distribution of free medicines. He emphasized a dual focus on physical and mental health, facilitated through infrastructure improvements and yoga classes.

The Ayushman Aarogya Mandirs, an initiative from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, aims to provide a comprehensive spectrum of health services. This initiative has two main components: establishing 1,50,000 centers to offer free primary healthcare and the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) providing Rs 5 lakhs in annual health insurance for over 10 crore vulnerable families.

Currently, India boasts 1,73,763 active Ayushman Aarogya Mandirs, including 1,27,637 sub-health and 23,908 primary health centers, among others, significantly bolstering the nation's healthcare infrastructure.
