Chief Minister Inaugurates Floodlights at Umakanta Mini Stadium, Highlights Commitment to Sports Development

Chief Minister Manik Saha underscored the role of sports in child development and announced government priorities in this sector during the inauguration of floodlights at Umakanta Mini Stadium. The state's focus includes synthetic turf fields and infrastructural enhancements to support sports advancement.

Chief Minister Manik Saha highlighted the significance of sports in children's development, asserting that the current government prioritizes sports to facilitate children's progress. 'Engaging in sports benefits both mind and body, which ultimately strengthens society,' said Saha on Tuesday.

The Chief Minister made these remarks while inaugurating the illumination of floodlights at Agartala's Umakanta Mini Stadium, an event organized by the Tripura Football Association. 'This is a historic day for Tripura football,' he proclaimed. He added that both state and central governments, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, consider the sports sector a priority. The state has already installed a synthetic turf field at the stadium and plans to build similar grounds in other regions.

Saha disclosed that each synthetic field costs Rs 5 crore. He expressed gratitude to the Youth Affairs and Sports Department and the Public Works Department for their roles in realizing the floodlight project. 'Thanks to the Tripura Football Association, children can now play sports day and night, which is beneficial for everyone,' noted Saha. He also emphasized the state's focus on football and athletics, suggesting future initiatives will include constructing synthetic tracks and swimming pools.

The inauguration event drew notable attendees, including social worker Rajib Bhattacharya, Agartala Mayor Dipak Majumder, and sports officials. Their collective presence underscored the community's support for the state's sports development agenda.
