Amid relentless heavy rainfall, a tragic incident unfolded in Jam Khambhalia town in Gujarat's Devbhumi Dwarka district, where a dilapidated three-storey building collapsed, resulting in the deaths of three women from the same family, police confirmed on Wednesday.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) quickly arrived at the scene after receiving reports of the collapse. NDRF Inspector Bipin Kumar stated earlier in the day, 'The team reached the spot promptly. There were fears that two to three individuals might be trapped under the rubble, and rescue operations were launched immediately.' All three bodies were recovered by the NDRF teams.
Extreme weather conditions continue to wreak havoc in the region. Heavy rains in Gujarat's Porbandar district have caused significant waterlogging, although no casualties have been reported, according to District Collector KD Lakhani. Meanwhile, Surat experienced major disruptions due to incessant rain. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted isolated extremely heavy rainfall over Gujarat, Konkan, Goa, and Madhya Maharashtra for the next two days, followed by heavy to very heavy rainfall.
