Indian Coast Guard Joins Search for Missing Persons After Shirur Landslide

The Indian Coast Guard is assisting Uttara Kannada district in locating three missing individuals after a landslide in Shirur village. Already, eight bodies have been recovered. Advanced technology, including drones and deep divers, is being used in the search. The landslide has led to the suspension of traffic on National Highway 66.

The Indian Coast Guard is aiding Uttara Kannada district in the search for three missing people after a massive landslide in Shirur village, officials reported on Wednesday.

Eight bodies have been found since the landslide occurred on July 16. A truck from Kerala has been located in the Gangavalli river. Naval deep divers are set to anchor it soon. The operation also includes the use of a long-arm boomer excavator and advanced drone-based Intelligent Underground Buried Object Detection systems.

The Coast Guard plans to conduct aerial searches with helicopters to locate missing bodies in the water. Karnataka Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda announced the deployment strategies, and vehicular traffic on National Highway 66 has been suspended due to the landslide.
