In the aftermath of a tragic incident that resulted in the deaths of three UPSC aspirants due to waterlogging at a Rajinder Nagar coaching centre, a plea has been filed in the Delhi High Court. The plea urges the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to implement immediate measures to avert similar tragedies.
Filed by the Hindu Rashtriya Pravasi Manch, the plea seeks an independent inquiry to determine the responsibility of the MCD, Rao IAS Study Centre, and the Delhi Government. It also demands compensation for the victims' families and the injured, along with regular inspections to ensure adherence to safety regulations at educational institutions.
Advocate Dr. AP Singh, representing the NGO, criticized the inaction of higher authorities despite ongoing protests by affected families. The plea highlights the negligence of the MCD in maintaining proper drainage and the unsafe conditions at Rao IAS Study Centre's basement. It also points to widespread safety lapses at other coaching hubs like Mukherjee Nagar.
Last year, a fire at a coaching center in Mukherjee Nagar forced students to escape through windows and down ropes. Such instances have prompted the Delhi High Court to order the immediate shutdown of any coaching centre violating fire safety norms, emphasizing the necessity of student safety.
Officials reported that the incident occurred when the basement of Rao's IAS Study Circle in Old Rajendra Nagar was flooded due to heavy rains. The Delhi Fire Department received an emergency call at around 7 pm on Saturday.
