On Tuesday, the Supreme Court solidified its previous decision to grant interim medical bail to NCP leader Nawab Malik, making the order permanent in a money laundering case. Justices Bela M Trivedi and Satish Chandra Sharma led the bench that confirmed the interim bail's permanence, subject to conditions outlined by a special court.

The initial interim bail, now deemed permanent, will last until the regular bail plea Malik filed with the Bombay High Court is resolved. Malik's counsel informed the bench that Malik suffers from various ailments, including a collapsed lung.

Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, representing the Enforcement Directorate (ED), did not oppose the interim bail request. Malik has been on interim medical bail since August 2023, when the Supreme Court granted it on medical grounds for two months, later extending it by another three months in October.

Malik had continually sought bail on health grounds, citing chronic kidney disease and other ailments. The Directorate of Enforcement arrested Malik in February 2022, accusing him of usurping a property in Kurla with help from Dawood Ibrahim's late sister, Haseena Parkar, between 1999 and 2006.

ED alleged that Parkar, who managed Dawood's illegal businesses, funneled the money for terror funding.
