Holiday Declared in Dakshina Kannada Amid Red Alert for Heavy Rain

Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan announced a holiday for educational institutions in Dakshina Kannada on July 31 due to a red alert for heavy rain. Fishermen are advised against venturing into the sea, and public safety measures are heightened, with emergency services on standby.

In response to the Indian Meteorological Department's red alert for rain in Dakshina Kannada district, Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan has declared a holiday for Anganawadi, schools, and pre-university colleges on July 31.

The alert also extends to fishermen, who have been sternly warned against venturing into the sea. Residents are advised to avoid low-lying areas and adhere to safety precautions. The district administration remains on high alert, with emergency services and relief teams ready to act.

The Dakshina Kannada District Disaster Management Authority has initiated precautionary measures amid widespread rain forecasts by the Indian Meteorological Department and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Management Centre. The District Magistrate's office confirmed that all Anganawadi, government, aided, and private primary and high schools, as well as pre-university colleges, will observe a holiday on July 31.

For student safety, conducting classes in dilapidated buildings is strictly prohibited. The public and tourists are urged to avoid water-filled low-lying areas, lakes, river banks, and seashores. Fishermen are advised to stay ashore, and residents must steer clear of rivers, ditches, and electric poles or wires.

In the event of any incident related to natural calamities or signs thereof, the public is instructed to promptly notify the concerned Panchayat or urban local bodies.
